event  hinders  the  recall  of  another.  It  could  occur  when  outdated  information  students  have learned  blocks  their  memory  of  updated  information.  For  example,  former  students  of  French who  are  trying  to  learn  Spanish  may  keep  recalling  a  French  word  while  trying  to  remember  its Spanish  counterpart.  The  greatest  help  you  can  offer  is  to  make  sure  learning  is  complete  and conceptual.  Once  students  have  had  sufficient  practice  to  learn  the  information  as  a  concept, they   will   retrieve   the   information   more   easily. S U M M A R Y Your   practical   application   of   the   principles   of   learning   will   have   a   great   impact   on   your students’   ability   to   master   course   objectives.   Knowing   about   these   principles   isn’t   enough;   you must  use  them  on  a  daily  basis.  To  transfer  your  knowledge  and  skills  as  an  expert  in  your field,  you  must  understand  what  causes  students  to  learn  and  what  can  interfere  with  that learning.  Students  have  enough  built-in  obstacles  to  learning  without  you  becoming  one  also. Learn,  understand,  and  apply  the  principles  of  learning  and  you  will  be  on  your  way  to becoming  a  master  trainer. 31
