more technical than others, all ratings are important and essential  for  the  Navy’s  day-to-day  operations.  In  the following  sections,  let’s  examine  the  Navy  ratings within  their  appropriate  occupational  fields. Occupational  Fields Ratings  are  organized  into  23  occupational  fields, as shown in table 2-3 and in appendix B of the Manual of   Navy   Enlisted   Manpower   and   Personnel Classifications  and  Occupational  Standards,  Volume  I, part A, NAVPERS 18068. Notice how these ratings (indicated by abbreviations in parentheses) are listed or grouped according to their occupational areas.
