When   a   student   is   issued   a   classified correspondence  course,  he  or  she  must  be  made  aware that he or she is responsible for safeguarding it at all times  and  particularly  for  locking  it  in  an  appropriate security safe whenever it is not in use. The student completing  the  classified  correspondence  course  must follow  locally  established  procedures  to  make  sure unauthorized persons do not gain access to it. The  student  must  not  remove  the  classified correspondence  course  from  a  designated  office  or working area except in performance of his or her official duties and under conditions providing the protection required.  Under  no  circumstances  will  the  student remove classified material from designated areas to work on during off-duty hours, or for any other purpose involving  personal  convenience. OPNAVINST   5510.1H   contains   additional information on the handling of classified material. SUMMARY This chapter outlined the purpose of the TA program and clarified who is eligible to apply. It also explained TA’s limitations and the procedures for applying for TA. You  also  should  have  acquired  an  in-depth understanding of the enlisted advancement system, procedures  for  obtaining  examinations,  security requirements,  and  the  preparation  and  importance  of verification of worksheets. As a senior PN, you should have   an   understanding   of   the   purpose   and responsibilities  of  the  examining  board  as  well  as  the importance  of  securing  training  materials. 3-20
